Tomáš Fučík
Tomáš Fučík (born May 23, 1985 in Třebíč) is a Czech swimmer, who specialized in backstroke and individual medley events. He is a multiple-time Czech champion and record holder for the 100 m backstroke and 200 m individual medley (both long and short course). Fucik is a member of the Jihlavsky Swimming Club ((チェコ語:Jihlavský klub plavání)), and is coached and trained by Markéta Kaplanova. Fucik qualified for two swimming events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing FINA B-standard entry times of 56.54 (100 m backstroke) and 2:03.57 (200 m individual medley) from the Mare Nostrum Barcelona Meet in Spain. In the 100 m backstroke, Fucik challenged seven other swimmers on the second heat, including Colombia's Omar Pinzón, and three-time Olympians Örn Arnarson of Iceland, and Eduardo Germán Otero of Argentina. He rounded out the field to last place and forty-first overall by 0.55 of a second behind Otero in 57.29 seconds. In the 200 m individual medley, Fucik posted his lifetime best of 2:02.85 to take a fourth spot on the same heat by more than a second behind Ukraine's Vadym Lepskyy. Fucik failed to qualify for the semifinals, as he placed thirty-first overall in the preliminaries. At the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, Fucik set a new Czech record time of 55.88 seconds and 2:02.60, respectively in the men's 100 m backstroke and 200 m individual medley. ==References==
